Why Sustainable Fashion
Sustainable clothing brands encourage consumers to be aware of how their fashion choices impact the environment, workers, and animals. Sustainable fashion is stepping back from the over-consumption, “fashion is disposable”, mindset.
With so much coming to light surrounding the clothing cycle and responsibility of “fast-fashion” companies, my mindset is shifting. I’m challenging myself to focus on the longevity of pieces in my closet, rather than creating an unnecessary collection of clothes, just because they are on sale.
Until I really educated myself on sustainable fashion, I simply was not aware of the importance of it and the impact it has on so many aspects of our world.
What you can do
This post is not intended to shame anyone for their wardrobe or shopping habits, especially if affordability is imperative for you. I respect every budget and do not recommend spending outside of your means. This is simply an education resource to share affordable sustainable brands and ethical clothes. I also want to encourage you to deeply evaluate your clothing purchases going forward, be mindful of over-consumption, and consider how you can maximize your current wardrobe, regardless of brand names!
I will be incorporating more sustainable clothing brands and ethical clothes in seasonal capsules, like this. Essential pieces, like wardrobe staples, would also be a great starting point for adding these pieces to your wardrobe!
Learn more about sustainable clothing brands
Most brands have an about page on their site where you can learn about their sustainability efforts. Beware of greenwashing! An example of Greenwashing is a fast-fashion brand using more eco-friendly materials for a few items, however their overall business model does not support sustainability.
For me, I am so excited to start incorporating sustainable clothing brands and ethical clothes in my closet, and sharing what I learn with you along the way! Pin this post or follow me on Instagram (@ppfgirl) so that you can follow along.
