CRAVING
It’s hard to believe it’s almost September, which means that sweater weather will be here before we know it! I’ve finally switched my closet over to the new season, so now I have a good idea of what types of sweaters I want to add to my wardrobe. I’ve always said that cashmere is a worthwhile investment and this camel pullover is a great staple (and under $90!). If you want to add some trendier styles into the mix for fall, I recommend trying a tie-sleeve sweater like this & this or something with ruffled details like this & this.
TRYING
On my journey to cut down my exposure to harmful chemicals, one product that I’ve struggled to find a good replacement for was deodorant. I used this one for a while with some success, but I wasn’t amazed by it so I’m currently testing out this cream for the next few months. It’s a slightly messier application process, but so far I’m loving the results (another scent option here). If you’re interested in swapping out some of your everyday products for more natural options, I recommend starting small by cutting out the worst offenders – use these wool balls instead of dryer sheets, try these chlorine-free feminine products & look for a deodorant without aluminum.
READING
As someone who has to adhere to a fairly restrictive diet for health reasons, it can feel really isolating at times – when everyone in your group of friends wants to visit a local spot for donuts on Saturday morning or grab a scoop of ice cream after dinner & you’re the only one who can’t partake, it’s hard not to feel excluded. Even though I know I have to make difficult choices to keep my disease in remission, those moments can be really tough & are only made more unpleasant when well-meaning people make comments about it. This post struck a chord with me because she talks in detail about “food bullying” and how it has such a negative emotional affect on us (even if those comments are made in jest). It’s an excellent reminder that, as in all areas of life, we shouldn’t judge others when we don’t know the whole story.
WEARING
As much as I love statement jewelry, I’m finding that the older I get, the more I value high-quality pieces that are wearable for every day. My husband bought me these double hoop earrings as an anniversary gift & I love how simple & chic they are. This is a new-to-me brand that I recently came across on social media – they have so many beautiful handcrafted pieces, including dainty studs that will work well for my second holes (I’m currently eyeing these & these).
USING
I recently did a huge closet clean-out and it felt so good that I decided to carry the purging process over to my beauty cabinet. I ended up getting rid of tons of expired makeup and throwing out a good amount of old nail polishes that were either old & goopy or in colors that I no longer favor. My rule for both my clothes & makeup: if it wasn’t something I wore regularly or truly loved, it had to go. What I ended up with was a pared-down collection of pieces & products that I know I’ll reach for over and over again. At the top of my beauty list was this fall nail polish, this eye palette (I use these when applying to protect my under-eye area) & this concealer (my holy grail!).
LOVING
Neutral booties are a fall essential & when you can find a pair in a lighter hue like tan & taupe, they’re even easier to wear during the transition between seasons (and can carry you right into spring). I’m really picky about boots because I don’t want the shaft to come up too high (which visually shortens legs) and I don’t want a too-round toe. These booties are the perfect color, toe shape & heel height…plus, they’re real leather & under $100! More affordable options to try include these block heel booties, this low-heel style, these knee-high boots & this over-the-knee pair.
Absolutely love your blog! x

Can I ask how you disposed of your nail polish? I have an embarrassing amount of old, goopy nail polish but have no idea what the safe way is to throw it away.
I actually had to research this when I was doing my clean-out too because I didn’t know what to do with it! Because it is a flammable substance, you don’t want to just throw it in your garbage – you need to find a household hazardous waste transfer facility in your area. I used this website to locate the one nearest me (just type in the material you’re needing to dispose of along with your zip code) – http://earth911.com/
I found this natural deodorant on amazon and it’s great so far. All essential oils and it smells amazing!

Thank you for your posts! I love them. Plus, I use mostly organic cosmetics as conventional cosmetics and body lotions have tons of chemicals and hormone disrupters and cancer-causing ingredients such as lead in red lipstick for example.
I use this deoderant and it appears to be much cheaper than the others. Ive been using it for years with great results. https://primalpitpaste.com/collections/natural-deodorant-jars/products/lavender-natural-deodorant-jar-1

Thank you for sharing! If this deodorant doesn’t end up working out for me, I will check yours out!!
You’re welcome! Wishing you the best of luck and health!
Angora Cardi is my favorite polish color!! So pretty for fall… I’m going to get it out today!! I wish I could fly back east and take you out to lunch at a fabulous place where we can find dietary options that are super healthy for us and have a lovely conversation!! 🙂
Aww, I would LOVE that too – it’s so hard to find others who eat the same way I do!
I loved reading the food bullying article. I recently stopped drinking alcohol for health reasons as well and the “playful” comments from others can be so hurtful. It’s nice to have articles like this circulating which might make people think twice about what they say.
Yes I completely agree – I think raising awareness is key. I’m sure I made similar comments to people before I had to eat a restrictive diet and now I wish I could take those words back!
We all have, I’m sure! The important thing is to learn and do better in the future ♥
I seldom drink, I have mild IBS, and I try to watch what I eat both to keep my gut calm and to keep off the pounds (I was overweight for a long time). I hear ya!
I finally found a natural deodorant that I love and that works well and come in stick form so it’s not messy at all–Native Deodorant. Their website: https://www.nativecos.com/product/deodorant-women/ Their website lists the ingredients, but it is aluminum-free. I’ve only tried coconut vanilla, and it’s great, and my son tried the Eucalyptus and loved it also. It’s pricey at $12, but you can buy 3 packs that bring the price down a bit and the shipping is free.
Thank you for sharing – I would love to get one that comes in a stock form, so I will definitely try this one out!
