This trend is all about creating a polished face that looks effortless, yet feels put together.

I love the no makeup makeup look because it saves time and is something that will last all day with minimal, if any, touchups. When applied correctly you will have a glowing, natural look.

There are countless products you can use, however it is important to stick to basic products because the point is to look like you are not wearing layers of product. 

One last thing, the no makeup makeup look is not to be mistaken for a natural, makeup free face. You want to create a polished look. The focus will be covering blemishes and dark spots, filling in lashes and brows, and highlighting your features.

No Makeup Products

In my opinion a simple skincare routine and a silk pillowcase are the foundation to great skin. Personally, I’ve gained more confidence to wear less makeup since I started taking my skincare seriously.

I’ll guide you through a routine to attain a flawless and polished look using only six products. I will reveal my top luxury choices as well as cost-effective substitutes.

1. Concealer

Achieving a ‘no makeup’ makeup look hinges on the strategic use of concealer. Apply it sparingly, targeting only areas that need coverage such as dark spots, blemishes, and discoloration. The aim is to subtly even out the skin tone, as a small amount can have a significant impact.

Refrain from using concealer on areas that don’t require it. For instance, I apply it solely to the dark inner corners of my undereye, not the entire area.

TIP: Don’t overlook the eyelid. For me, a tiny dab of IT concealer on my upper eyelid substitutes eyeshadow, effectively brightening the eyes without the need for actual shadow.

2. Tinted Sunscreen

For this routine, I skip foundation alltogether and opt instead for a tinted sunscreen. It provides sheer and glowing coverage while offering much needed protection! Apply all over the face as needed for an effortless glowing face.

3. Brow Pencil

Honestly, there are days when a brow pencil is the only product I use. It’s an effortless way to add a touch of glamour. My long-time favorite is the Benefit cosmetic pencil. It’s a bit pricey, but it glides on beautifully and lasts all day without smudging.

TIP: For brow pencil application, the trick is to apply it gently. Applying too much pressure can result in harsh-looking brows rather than a natural look.

4. Mascara

Achieve a wide-eyed, naturally lifted lash appearance with a few coats of mascara. Brownish-black mascara is essential for a subtle, no-makeup look. It offers the enhancement of makeup without the stark contrast of deep black mascara.

5. Cheek Palette

For this routine, we avoid makeup with heavy pigmentation. Instead, add a hint of color to your face using a basic cheek palette. Apply a single layer of bronzer and blush where needed, making sure to blend thoroughly for a natural glow. Highlighter is optional but can be applied to the browbones and cheeks for added radiance.

6. Lip Gloss

Finally, for a natural lip look, all you need is a sheer gloss. My favorite is the Tarte lip plump; it adds just the perfect hint of color for that effortless no-makeup appearance.

Maracuja oil has so many uses for skin, hair, and nails. The benefits are amazing and the best part is that you can feel good about the ingredients!

What is Maracuja Oil?

Maracuja Oil is extracted from the seeds of passion fruit and is cold pressed. It is also called passion fruit oil, maracuya oil, passiflora oil, or passiflora edulis oil. This oil contains numerous fatty acids and vitamins, making it a nourishing product to use on skin, hair, and nails. 

Some would say this beauty oil does it all! From what I have read, there are so many uses for it. I’ll share some of the top uses below.

Natural nutrients are important to me, especially when it comes to my skin and hair products, and this is why I wanted to try out maracuja oil. Check out the ingriedent list on this oil!

With my mostly oily/combination skin, oils are tricky but this one applies nicely and doesn’t feel heavy on my skin.

Also, as a recently postpartum mama, I have see a lot of changes to my hair. I’m excited to apply this oil to my scalp and hair. Maybe it will help bring it back to life! I’ve found that consistency and time are important when trying out any new beauty product, so I will try this on my hair for several months and report back on the results. From my immediate impression, this oil does not weigh my fine strands down and really helps with styling and managing frizz. As with any oil, a little bit goes a very long way!

Best Maracuja Oil

After purchasing this maracuja lip gloss from Tarte, I wanted more. This product was unlike any other lip product I used before, in a good way! My lips were plump, soft, and stayed hydrated. What made this so different? Well, this led me to discover a whole page of Maracuja products sold by Tarte. I’m thinking “why aren’t more people talking about this?!” It is so good!!

I recently purchased the Tarte Maracuja Oil from Amazon and love it! It is also available on Tarte, but Amazon had a better price at the time I purchased. It feels lightweight on both my skin and hair. Other oils I have tried in the past feel heavy and clog my pores but this one has not. It also works really well on my fine hair.

In case you didn’t know, a flat iron can be used as a BOTH a hair straightener and curler. If you are looking to curl hair without investing in a new curling iron, try a flat iron if you have one!

While it sounds contradicting, using a flat iron for curling hair is a popular method to obtain curls! With the right straightener and some practice, you will be able to create easy and effortless curls, we will show you how.

How to Use a Flat Iron for Curling

Follow these steps to curl hair using a flat iron. Depending upon you hair type and personal preference, you may need to adjust steps.

1. Clean your hair. Shampoo and condition as desired. I prefer to lightly condition my hair when curling. Personally, if I leave conditioner on for too long, the curls do not hold as well.
2. Apply styling products applicable to hair type. Heat protectant is always a good product to apply prior to using any form of heat.
3. Dry hair completely. Styling hair with hot tools ideal when hair contains zero moisture. Dry hair will ensure the curls lasts longer and will prevent damage. To avoid hair damage, always avoid using hot tools on wet or damp hair.
4. Part and Section Hair. Part you hair in the center or to one side, then section off hair for curling. For curling with a flat iron, I work in three sections around the crown. Starting with a bottom section, curling that hair, and then moving on to finish the middle and top section.
5. Work in 1-2 inch chunks at a time. Determine amount of hair based on hair thickness and desired curl shape. Curling smaller chunks will result in tighter curls, while thicker sections will have loose curls.
6. Curl. Starting 1-3 inches from the scalp, clamp down with the flat iron. Simultaneously twist and glide the straightener, slowly, down through the chunk of hair.
   • TIP: Do not treat the flat iron as a curling iron. Spiraling the hair tightly around flat iron blades will not curl hair. Instead, it will create creases where the blades turn down. Honestly, not a cute look.
7. Repeat steps 5 & 6 throughout each section until all hair is curled.
8. Let hair set for 1-2 minutes. When hair is completely cooled, you may want to run your fingers through (or a wide tooth comb) to break up the pieces a bit.
9. Apply setting products. If desired, apply hair spray or texture spray to curled hair.

Why Should You Use a Hair Straightener for Curling Hair?

Not sure if straightener curls are for you? Here are a few reasons why some people decide to use a hair straightener for curling hair.

• Rarely curl hair: For those who already own and use a flat iron frequently, it doesn’t make sense to invest in a curling iron for the minimal amount of times they want to curl their hair.
• Different Type of Curl: Flat irons curls are more wavy compared to curling iron curls. With a straightener, curls are more wavy and loose, which is very much in style!
• Heat protection: Ceramic plates are the optimal choice to provide a extra hair protection against high heat tools. This is particularly important for fine and thin hair types. Many curling are metal rather than ceramic.
• Long lasting curls: Straighteners help to smooth the hair cuticle which can extend the hold time for curls. BONUS: ceramic plates also are known for even heat distribution which is a must for even longer lasting curls!

What to Look for in Straighteners for Curling (and straightening)

When shopping around for straighteners to use for curling, look for narrow blades. Generally, it will be easier to curl hair with a flat iron if the blade is 1.5″ or smaller. This is because of the “twist and pull” technique required to curl hair with a flat iron. Extra wide plates make this technique awkward and difficult to manage.

Another characteristic to be mindful of is the blade material. Ceramic and titanium are popular blade options. Titanium is usually reserved for coarse hair types because of the fast heat up and high heat settings available. Proceed with caution when purchasing titanium, if not used correctly, the high heat settings can easily damage hair.

Ceramic plates are the more popular blade material. They offer an even heat distribution and are known for creating a smoothing effect of the hair cuticle. Both of these reasons make ceramic blades ideal for curling hair.

Finally, barrel style should be considered. Flat irons are available in flat or outer barrels. While curling can be done with either, rounded barrels are the optimal style for curling hair.

You should definitely be mindful of these things when considering if your straightener is a good fit for curling.

How long will straightener curls last?

This depends on several factors! Some would say that curling hair with a ceramic flat iron will offer longer lasting curls, as compared to a metal curling iron. 

Other factors that influencer how long hair curls last are hair type, hair tool material, styling products used, condition of hair when styled (dirty, clean, etc.), and type of curls you are going for.

What type of flat irons plates are best for curling hair?

From personal experience, I have found narrow, ceramic blade, flat irons to offer the best curls. The even heat distribution and added smoothness make for great curls!
